Description
This is the newly frozen Grey Lake in early winter, beneath Ptarmigan Peak in the Alaska's Chugach Mountains. It had not snowed much yet this winter, and such snow as there was had been swept clear of the ice by persistent winds, which you can see have piled snow to the left of the boulder. So the ice was clear and dark, and its smoothness made and interesting offset to jagged mountains and lichen-covered bolder.

Thank you, Joseph Yarbrough!! Haha!! Yes, if the black ice would stay at the lake, that would be excellent!! :-)

Congratulations. Lovely ice! Our black ice usually has asphalt under it. I I like yours better.
