Artist's Description
I happened upon this small, lonely forest in miniature, high above the tree-line, in the heart of Alaska's Chugach Mountains. These particular trees were of a type which I haven't noticed much around here. We have lots of black spruce, and then hemlock higher up. But this was neither of those ubiquitous types. The bark was smooth and light tan, while the trunks were very straight and uniform thickness. Nothing like it nearby, that I have seen.

About Tim Newton
I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon! Best wishes! Tim Newton

Great capture !
Tim Newton replied:
Thank you, Sorin!! It was a shot near the end of a day on a multi-day hike, carrying 80 lbs of gear. I almost passed by, not wanting to delay getting to camp & taking off all that weight. I guess I'm glad I stopped for a bit. :-)
