This photo was taken at the end of a glorious day's hike through Alaska's Chugach Mountain wilderness. This was about 7 pm, and I came upon this scene as we roamed about this high hanging valley, looking for a flat spot to place our tent. The sun was streaming through a gap in the cumulus clouds, just before dipping beneath a mountain ridge to the left. I caught it playing its light on the mountain ridges in the distance, the moss covered glacial moraine piles mid-ground, and the glorious red fireweed up close, with which I have a hopelessly irrational, life-long love affair.
This image was captured in RAW format at full resolution with a Canon 5d Mk III camera, 16-35mm f/2.8 L II lens, handheld, 16 mm, 1/30 sec, f/16, ISO 100, 18.8 MB, 3297x4945 px.

I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon!
