Description
This beautiful mama lynx kept close tabs on me as hiked past her in the forest near Indian, Alaska. Unbeknownst to me at this moment, she had treed her kitten very nearby just before I'd come upon them, and my path led me right past the tiny ball of fluff (see my photo, "Lynx Kitten"). She was going to make certain her kitten came to no harm from this forest passerby. When I finally noticed the kitten, I realized why the mama hadn't scampered off right away. I got a few shots of the baby, and then left them in peace.
This image was captured in RAW format at full resolution with a Canon 5d Mk II camera, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L lens, handheld, 400mm, 1/125 sec, f/7.1, ISO 1000, 14.3 MB, 4927x3285 px.
