Whenever I climb Bird Ridge in Alaska's Chugach Mountains, I gaze up this nameless, unpathed valley, and daydream of explorng it. The problem is that there is no trail (that I know of) and the undergrowth here is nearly impenetrable, so the only practical way into the valley is to either climb over the mountain ridges, or sidehill above the treeline. Both of those options are daunting, but one day I'm going to try. Early spring has arrived in Alaska, and the snow is melting on the South-facing mountain ridges.

I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon! Best wishes! Tim Newton
