Here is a copse of aspen in Alaska's Chugach Mountains, turning color in mid-September, 2017. I find it interesting that the south side of these trees all seem to be turning first. I don't know if that's common for aspen, but it makes a striking contrast. It was a very cloudy, somewhat rainy dusk, but the way the aspen is turning color, it almost looks like the sun is shining here, though it's definitely hiding behind the clouds.

I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon! Best wishes! Tim Newton
