In the Anchorage area, the sun is now setting around 4:30 pm, local time. This photo was taken in twilight about 1/2 hour later, when the sky was darkening quickly enough that consecutive exposures were rapidly getting longer and longer - this one was 5 seconds long. Several inches of recent snow now blanket the foothills of Alaska's Chugach Mountains, shown here. I love how the now leafless alder and willow bushes appear when offset by the new snow. I offer this as yet further evidence that winter 2015 has really and truly arrived in my neck of the woods.

I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon! Best wishes! Tim Newton
