In early spring, 2009, trees, rocks, and tundra on the mountain slopes in Alaska's Chugach Mountain wilderness were emerging from a winter with the residues of volcanic eruptions. The erupting volcano was Mt. Redoubt, which lies across Cook Inlet about 115 miles from this location. The volcanic ash added interesting shadow and texture to the melting snow, all that spring.
This image was captured in RAW format at full resolution with a Canon 5d Mk III camera, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L lens, handheld, 400mm, 1/640 sec, f/8.0, ISO 100, 16.1 MB, 5301x3534 px.

I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon!
