Artist's Description
Here is a view of Ptarmigan Peak taken from beneath the summit of False O'Malley mountain in Alaska's Chugach Mountains. Though it looks like broad daylight, this long-duration (3 minutes) time exposure was taken in Alaska's mid-winter, midnight darkness, lit by the moon and stars, with a little warm glow on the nearby rocks coming from Anchorage city lights in the distance. I find it interesting that you might not even be able to tell that this is a night-time photograph without the star trails showing in the night sky. There is some other subtle difference from daylight photos, however, that I haven't been quite able to put my finger on. I'm calling these "#daylike" photos.

About Tim Newton
I am a lifelong Alaskan (except for a few years "outside") perpetually enthralled with Alaska's unique natural beauty. I carry a camera, lenses, and tripod about on frequent treks throughout the Alaska wilderness, often in the Chugach Mountains near my home. I am mostly drawn to conventional landscape photography - subject, light, composition, and color. Occasionally I'll get the opportune shot of wildlife as I trek about, and sometimes - but infrequently - I travel outside Alaska, where of course my camera accompanies me. :-) I am always updating images here from recent treks, and look forward to seeing you here again soon! Best wishes! Tim Newton
